August wrap up—found another 5-star read 😍

This August wrap up, I finally got my hands on an Audible book of 1984. Someone pirated it for me (please don’t come for me 🥹).

I mentioned in the last two months that I enjoyed audiobooks. I especially tried the trial subscription for Audible and listened to Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens, finding the experience really great. However, it’s too expensive for me to continue with the subscription.

Luckily, there’s a free Audible book of 1984 on the pirate web, so, ah yes…

So here’s the wrap-up for my August reading. I know it’s a little late, but life has been so busy that I wasn’t able to publish this right away. I’m still figuring out how to balance my hobbies and work, but hopefully, in the coming months, I’ll be able to finish all my backlogs.

Please look forward to that! ♥️

Book cover of 1984 by George Orwell for book

This book is chilling and horrifying. And with the added experience of the Audible adaptation that felt like a radio drama than your standard audiobook, this book is a 5-star!

Least Favourite

Book cover of Letters to a Young Poet by Rainer Maria Rilke for book review

This book has a conversational tone. Many topics were covered in these letters which they may not be discussed in great depth, but it doesn’t feel superficial. However, this is the book I don’t strongly relate to. Its just me, not the book.

I Who Have Never Known Men by Jacqueline Harpman

🌟🌟🌟🌟

It’s a powerful and thought-provoking book, exploring the concept of women living largely without male intervention, though not entirely. I loved it and would have considered it my favorite, but the exceptional audiobook experience of 1984 edged it out.

Life Ceremony by Sayaka Murata

🌟🌟🌟

What can I say? This book is weird and I love it. It’s not forced; everything just falls into place. This is a collection of stories, each presenting strong, provocative, and radical ideas that gives me a brain orgasm (lol).

Small Things Like These by Claire Keegan

🌟🌟🌟

Keegan’s writing is beautiful, almost poetic, with its rich prose. I appreciate how the main character is portrayed—humane and deeply touching. The Christmas vibe in this small-town setting adds a quaint charm that contrasts with the book’s darker themes.

The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro

🌟🌟🌟🌟

This novel features a distinctly gentlemanly voice. The protagonist, Stevens, is a stoic and reserved character—a narrative style I haven’t encountered often and found to be a fascinating reading experience. The story delves into themes of melancholy and the passage of time, infused with regret and introspection, which is executed very well.

Final thoughts…

This month has been very productive for reading. I enjoyed the audiobook of 1984 a lot. Additionally, listening to audiobooks means I can go through books faster, which excites me because I can finally reduce the number of books on my reading list.
