September wrap up—one f hell of a reading month

I went deep with World Wars this month. Honestly, I might have seen it coming already after being exposed to it indirectly from books I have been reading the last month. For instance, the 1984 by George Orwell was written at the time of upheaval in World War II in Russia or Pachinko by Min Jin Lee in the context of World War II in Korea and Japan. This is also the same month that I started listening to The Book Thief by Markus Zusak which you might already know was in the context of World War II in Germany.

This time, I also finished All Quiet in the Western Front by Erich Maria Remarque in the context of World War I in Germany. So the atmosphere for this month is indeed WAR!

So here are the books I read in September!

Most Favourite

Book cover of The Book Thief by Markus Zusak for book review

This book is chilling and horrifying. And with the added experience of the Audible adaptation that felt like a radio drama than your standard audiobook, this book is a 5-star!

Book cover of Tender is the Flesh by Agustina Bazterrica for book review

I had a huge expectation on this book because the cover is promising and the start was strong but it did not held to expectation. The horror is there, but the execution is not well enough.

This book broke me. Witnessing the horror and futility of war through a soldier’s eyes was chilling. It shook me to my core and left me with a profoundly deeper understanding of history and the grim realities of war.

The Eyes Are the Best Part by Monika Kim

🌟🌟🌟🌟

This is one of the best horror novels I’ve read. The horror is crafted so well, and everything comes together just right. The themes and ideas it explores are dark, gripping, and leave a lot to think about.

Final thoughts…

This month’s reading was intense—the emotional weight of these books really hit me. Still, I loved the experience and can’t wait to dive deeper into more war and horror genres.
